How Linen uses AI

Linen is an IDE first. Making a mod, reading the game's code, running the game, Linen Check and Add to your mod all work without any AI account. AI is there when you want it, and it runs on your account, not ours.

Claude Code, on your own plan

  • Linen's AI chat is Claude Code, Anthropic's official extension, installed from the Open VSX registry the first time you ask for it and kept up to date. Linen does not change, wrap or restyle it.
  • You sign in inside Claude Code with your own Claude account. Linen never shows its own Claude login and never reads, stores or forwards your Claude credentials.
  • Anthropic bills your usage under your plan. Linen never sells, proxies or marks up AI usage.
  • Linen is not made, endorsed or sponsored by Anthropic.

What Linen gives Claude

  • Your exact setup. Each mod gets a short instructions file with its loader, Minecraft version, mappings and the rules that matter for that version, so Claude doesn't write code for the wrong one.
  • Tools that look things up instead of guessing. Through Linen's tool server, Claude finds a class or method in the game's real code for your version, reads examples from the game, opens other mods your mod depends on, and runs Gradle builds and tests, getting back only the failures.
  • Checks on every edit. When Claude changes a file, Linen Check reads it the way the game will (registrations, models, loot tables, names, mixins), and when Claude says it's done, Linen asks it to fix what the check still finds.

What leaves your machine

WhatWhere it goes
Your code, prompts and Claude's repliesTo Anthropic, through Claude Code, under your account, when you use it. Never to us.
Minecraft's decompiled codeMade and kept on your machine. When Claude looks something up through Linen's tools, the part it reads is sent to Anthropic as part of the conversation.
Your Anthropic API key, if you give Linen one for its own AI featuresKept in your system's keychain and sent only to api.anthropic.com.
Usage statisticsOff until you turn them on. They never include code, file names, prompts, Claude's replies or logins.

Switches

  • Leave Claude Code out of a mod: its setup step has an opt-out, remembered for that mod.
  • Don't install Claude Code at all: nothing in Linen needs it.
  • Keep the game's code out of Claude's conversation: turn off "Let Claude read Minecraft's code" in Settings. Linen's tools then give Claude the game's names and signatures only, never its code.

What it doesn't do yet

  • Claude can still be wrong. Linen Check catches many mistakes, but it reads files; it doesn't yet compile every change or start the game to prove it works. A compile check on every change is being built.
  • Porting a whole mod to a new Minecraft version with Claude works today only as a conversation; a guided porting assistant is planned.
